Renato & Epe: A Journey of Faith, Fellowship, and Commitment

By Pastor Pochy Montes

In the heart of Keizer, amidst the bustling routines of daily life, a remarkable story of faith and friendship recently unfolded.

Renato Torres and Edmundo “Epe” Selvas are best friends whose journey began with a simple invitation to the "Keizer Hub" from VIViD Adventist Church, a gathering where young adults from diverse backgrounds dig into the Bible and engage in meaningful conversations. Over time, Renato and Epe became fixtures in this community, forging deep friendships and embracing the teachings of the Word. Both young men are dedicated to personal growth, but even more important has been their desire to share the joy they've found with others. While working with their study group, they have extended invitations to friends and siblings to join, fostering an inclusive environment where everyone feels welcome to participate and share their unique perspectives.

As they delved into the book of Romans, Renato and Epe felt a profound transformation taking place within them. They took to heart the words they found in Romans 8:1-2 ”So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death.” Together, they embarked on a journey of introspection and discernment, leading them to make life-altering decisions rooted in their newfound faith. Their commitment to spiritual growth didn't stop at weekly study sessions. Renato and Epe hungered for more knowledge and connection with Jesus, prompting them to join Friday night studies and house study groups with their church community. Despite the demands of their business, they made the courageous decision to honor the Sabbath, dedicating it to worship, rest, and acts of service.

This dedication will culminate in a significant milestone as Renato and Epe prepare for their baptism alongside two other friends. Their journey is not just one of personal faith but a testament to the transformative power of community and the unwavering support of those who walk alongside them. As they take this profound step of faith, let’s lift them up in prayer, asking for blessings upon their lives. May their journey inspire others to seek a deeper relationship with God and may they continue to be beacons of light in their community, spreading love, hope, and the message of salvation to all they encounter.
