Cascade Church Hosts Free Dental Clinic for Vets

Cascade Church Hosts Free Dental Clinic for Vets

“They are just so thankful for everything! I asked one of the vets if he was interested in improving his smile by having a dentist work on his teeth. ‘That’s hard to do,’ he told me, ‘I only have 5 teeth left.’ We laughed together as he helped one of his friends to his dental appointment.” – Volunteer Shari

“I get to meet all of the patients, and even though I only get to spend a short time with them while taking them to their next destination, I try to make a new friend. Today I was with a gentleman who is a veteran of WWII. He was a fireman on a ship, keeping the boilers going. He told me terrible stories about surviving an attack by a submarine. He was so thankful to still be alive and able to get his teeth cleaned today.” – Volunteer Hostess

This is now our fourth year holding a dental clinic for veterans. Did you know that unless they were discharged as 100% disabled, veterans do not have any dental insurance? We’re helping meet that need and we’re volunteers - the dentists, hygienists, greeters, and all - and the clinic is being put on by the Cascade Church, a small church here in Bend. It’s interesting that most of the patients come knowing nothing about our church, but are thrilled with the service they receive. One lady told me that we’re all angels, doing service to the vets! – Dr. Nancy – Clinic Medical Director

“For awhile there, I was afraid we would have to cancel the clinic because we didn’t have enough dentists. Then, with just a couple days to spare, Randy called me and said he’d just gotten three more volunteer dentists and we were a GO and have been able to care for 62 veterans today. God always provides!” – Jerry Wallace, Clinic Coordinator

“I love doing these clinics, especially with the kind and efficient volunteers we have here in Bend.” – Randy Meyer, Caring Hands Worldwide

“What pleases me the most about today is that almost our entire church congregation is here helping the vets!” – Jeff Coleman, Cascade pastor
