Education Night Coming to Virtual Camp Meeting

Education Night Coming to Virtual Camp Meeting

For students like Mayra Vasquez, church member financial partnerships with Adventist schools have made a big impact. Through the collaboration of donors from her church with her family, she was able to attend Portland Adventist Academy (PAA) and graduated June 2020. At PAA, Vasquez found a place where her faith could flourish: “I think going to [an] Adventist school has helped me recognize there is a community out there that has the same faith as me and that we can talk about Jesus openly. I think that’s super exciting. I love talking about Jesus [and] having those people around you that are also excited about it has definitely impacted me in wanting to grow my faith.”

Vasquez and PAA have had a positive influence on each other.  PAA Chaplain, Mackenzie Aamodt observes, “Mayra has been an inspiration to be around. Her quiet, humble spirit has a powerful influence on those around her. She will be missed at PAA.”

Tuition partnerships assisted in making Vasquez’ experience at PAA possible. Reflecting on the gift of scholarships, Vasquez states, “It’s kind of crazy thinking about how this person doesn’t even know us and they are giving us money. But it’s definitely made me want to do that in the future. Someone is investing in me now, and so I have already started thinking [how] about when I grow up and make money, I’m going to invest in some other people who need it. My mentality is to serve my community and to serve the generations that are coming.”

To hear more testimonies from students, tune in to the Oregon Conference Camp Meeting Education Night on July 23, 2020.
