The Tale of Betty the Visiting Chicken

The Tale of Betty the Visiting Chicken

The small quiet town of Boring, Oregon, near the base of Mt. Hood, is home to DeVere and Cynthia Crawford who have been adopted by Betty the Chicken.

One day, as the story goes, DeVere found an egg in the flower garden, beside their porch.

The next day there was another egg, in the very same place.

DeVere and Cynthia waited and watched to see where the eggs were coming from.

And sure enough Betty the Chicken showed up at their front door. Not once or twice, but every day!

Now, you need to know that the Crawfords have no chickens.

But their neighbor does!

And yes, chickens CAN fly!

Every day Betty flies up over the fence to visit the Crawfords.

As Betty and DeVere became fast friends Betty has taken full responsibility for guarding the Crawford’s yard, even from the squirrels! One in particular liked to pick on Betty.

Finally though, Betty and the squirrel have become friends. And sometimes she even allows the squirrel to join her at the feeding table.

Betty’s eggs have kept coming. One, two, three each day. Gifts to DeVere and Cynthia from Betty.

And Cynthia keeps taking pictures with her phone and filling a book with stories. Tales of hope, and courage, and happiness. These stories come regularly as gifts from Betty the Chicken, during a time that otherwise has been filled with pandemic sadness.
