On Tuesday June 4, the Oregon Conference Executive Committee “unanimously and enthusiastically” voted to invite Dr. Tom Evans to become the next Outreach Ministries Director of the Oregon Conference.

Douglas is a funny little man with a slow shuffle and a soft voice. He's lived in Pamplona his whole life, in the same house. Unlike other shelter directors I've visited, Douglas was a little hesitant at first to give me a tour.

Oregon Conference children’s ministry director, Shirley Allen, has been awarded the first annual “Leonard Bierlein Reach the Word for Jesus” award, by Ultimate Mission.

The Ultimate Mission team, based in Portland, Oregon, provides support and training for health workers, each of whom is the wife of a Seventh-day Adventist pastor. These women are being trained on how to teach the four key lifestyle changes that will reduce the chance of contracting Type 2 diabetes.

Over 36,000 people are counted as members in the Oregon Conference territory. That’s 36,000 individuals, called together into a community of faith to fulfill the mission that Jesus has given us. More than 36,000 stories of humans trying to make sense of life and family and faith. Kaleb will help tell their stories.

This week Portland Adventist Academy (PAA) announced that Mechelle Peinado has been named principal of the 109-year-old school.

“So, I started visiting houses in and around Barrow. Turned out that the advertising hadn’t worked at all. Someone thought that it would be great to have kids go door-to-door hanging advertisements on doorknobs. However, with the temperatures at 27 degrees below zero, not a lot of hangings got hung!”

Fourteen Northwest Adventist schools are among the recipients of nearly $1.2 million in grants from the Versacare Foundation, including $920,000 to 118 primary and secondary schools across the North America Division (NAD).

Each shelter is a “one-day only” stop. Walkers have to keep walking, because the next day will bring another flood of people who will fill the shelter to capacity again. Most of the shelters are run by a church, or a small foundation. Some are run by individuals or families.
